I bought a 2002 kia this summer and happy so far. This morning I was coming to work and it is cold out -10F and the van would not shift out of 3rd gear until I stopped and shut the van off and went again. My check engine light came on but I think this is probably a tranny code.
Any Thoughts?????????
Any Thoughts?????????

Trans isnt going to upshift properly until vehicle reaches operating temp. Especially in this cold weather, its not a good idea to push it.
Checking the trans fluid level is difficult because the dipstick does not read correctly all the time, one side of the stick will say full and the other side says its low.
How many miles??? Second owner is covered to 5/60000.
These trans if not maintained are subject to failure. I would get the code scanned and I could tell you more what the problem could be.
If you stick to the recommended maint. schedule the vehicle will last along time.

Thanks for the comeback. I am getting it scanned Monday if they can fit it in. The vehicle had been driven for +15min when I shut it off and restarted it so it had already reached operating temp long before that. I could handle it if it ran that way for a short way. My 93 Camry with 256,000 km does that. The van has 86,000 miles on it. I bought it in the US and imported to Canada.
