1990 ford bronco 2

i have replaced the head gaskets and had to remove the disributer. when installing the distributer. it wouldnt run. i have reset the timming agian and agian. i removed the connector in the wire that the book says to and the truck will run. if i put the piece back in the truck will idle just not excellerate when you try it back fires and spits and spudders. but if i take that piece back out it seems to run fine what is going on please help....
