It's winter and we all like having fun in the snow. What charges could cops bring agaisnt someone who is drifting in a empty parking lot??
Thanks

Wreckless driving, careless and prohibited driving, trespassing, it depends on what they feel like writing...

...and it probably also depends on how stupid you are.

The sad thing is that there's probably no better way to learn car control--short of spending real money on a driving school-- than doing just that.

Very true though. Both last year and this year I took my car out on the 1st day of snow to learn how it will handle. The sad thing is last year i had a rwd truck and this year I have a frd car. I miss fishtailing my truck, although its fun using the parking brake. Just not as fun

You mean doing donuts? :iceslolan My husband used to have this 1981 Toyota Celica, and we'd find an empty parking lot and do donuts.
One time my husband was at Wal-Mart, and the natives get restless around here sometimes...this was at night, and some doofus was racing through the parking lot, racing their engine, and just plain being stupid. :screwy:
Then a cop went after them. Owned! :loser:

I don't htink cops have any domain in a private parking lot unless the owners of the lot press charges. I'm not sure on this so I'd appreciate being set straight if I'm wrong.

my friend and I were actually sledding on the top of his car(driving up snowy hill, getting on the roof and the other person then putting it in nuetral), I know it was dumb but it was still fun, it was at a school parking lot and I actually knew one of the janitors(I was attending the school at the time) and he came out and warned us that they were calling the cops. So I guess thats what you mean when you say they wanted to press charges. I actually now do some drifting in a church parking lot that is behind the building and I couldnt imagine a cop driving back there on patrol. I would imagine the only way of getting caught would be doing it out in the open or where someone may report it.

my buddy got charged w/ Exhibition driving for drifting.....i'm not too happy about some cops' behavior....they could've told us to leave because we weren't hurting anything.....

Why do people think that because " We werent hurting anything " or " well no one was around" That they dont deserve to be pulled over/ticketed? I mean your doing something illegal so if you get caught/pulled over and the cop gives you a ticket its your fault not his/hers. And just because you werent hurting anything or anyone doesnt mean you wont hurt yourself. Just cuz its an open parking lot doesnt mean anything. Alot of different things can happen. You cant control everything.

Jeez Chevy, way to rain on everyones parade. lol Its just you have to admit, sometimes police get involved when its not necessary.

No such thing as "not necessary" Us kids look at things a lot different the us officers. Kids see it as innocent fun, and for the most part it is. Officers see it as dangerous to them, the "kids", and the public. Im not tryin to be a prick but its the truth. Dont get me wrong is still whip a donut now and again LOL

also, police can write tickets in parking lots. They can write tickets anywhere that has unrestricted access to a public road.

yeah its pretty snowy in the parking lots here in Omaha nebraska lol. drifting in the snow is pretty hazardous if there are any people lingering around, since you never really know how slippery the snow really is. i suppose a cop could punish you for putting the public in danger by fishtailing around grannies as they make thier way to the supermarket entrance lol. i would hate to catch anyone doing drifting in a parking lot. its just wrong... :naughty:
...so i was drifting in a parking lot a few days ago, really, i was... and i tried to whip it around one of them medians they always have with the big-ass curbs and stuff, and i got around the one, but didnt seem to realize until too late that there was another median about 20 feet away. so basically i slid right into it with all the weight on my rear right tire, and hit pretty hard. I then proceeded to drive away, but the car was pulling to the right in the back like the wheel was locked up or something. lol heres the funny part... i got out and looked, and the wheel was bent out to the right and at some insane angle tipped towards the ground. i slid home and got a good look at it and noticed that i bent both the little control arm things, (its a honda accord), not the typical A shape ones for front wheels, but these wierd little bars. they were straight before the incident, but looked like candy-canes after it.
i just went yesterday in fact to order the new parts, 120 bucks from a honda dealership... and i had to spend a lot of time grinding the old ones out with my angle grinder, since the impact bent the mounting bolts so that they wouldnt just simply pull out of the bushings at each end of the arms. it was pretty bad, a lot of cussing and shivering lol.
did i learn my lesson... yeah i guess, for about a week maybe, im sure ill be out there being a redneck again as soon as more snow falls. i cant wait till next year when ill have my 73 chevy truck finally done (doing a restoration in my parents garage lol). prolly not tho since im only 17 and im already spending 7 grand on the truck, and 30 hours a week at freakin mcdonalds lol.
so the moral of the story is... get a crappy car and go find some empty lot where theres no cops and have sum fun... if you mess up, take off the plates and scrape off the vin number tags, and run like hell.......

Funny thing about the 1st part. A guy in my WyoTech class was drifting around people and drifting around the entrance of our local Wal-Mart. at 8 in the morning. Needless to say the people at the WalMart got his plates. That night in class (class runs from 430pm-130am) he was told by the lead guy that they had recieved a letter from both Walmart and the cops. Needless to say he only got a slap on the wrist from the school. We haven't heard anything in a week about it.
The night before the incendent at walmart a couple class mates when out to a golf course parking lot for some fun. One of the guys was trying to catchup. So he cut across the lot, he didnt know that there was a curb in the middle. He messed up the whole front end and rear end. I just laugh at them.
And for the plates, I have those really dark covers for mine. Only been pulled over foe them once and that was because the PA cop could tell I was from NY, but he didnt see a front plate. So yea got pulled over for that.

It varies from state to state. I'm in Las Vegas NV. and when we go out to watch the Stunters on Sportbikes in empty parking lots the cops don't do anything. It's private property and unless there's signs that say "no tresspassing" the cops can't do a thing! Once, I was at a shopping center chatting with a police officer that I know in the parking lot and we both witnessed a car accident, and he told me he couldn't get involved until we saw the other driver speed off. Then that was all she wrote!

Down here we got this old warehouse. Behind the ware house is a bare parking lot. Rough surface but snow fixes that. The lots a monster. I can't wait till february. I just hope it snows.
And as long as were talking bout wrecks... I was in my crx. the road was black, but it had been snowing all morning, so i figured it was just wet. Im doing 55 on an icy road that i thought was just wet. A car pulls out infront of me, i swerve around him. Right about hear the road starts to become snowy. Whill i was going past him my car went 90 degrees from going down the road. i was staring straight at the guy who pulled out infront of me. I caught it, whipped it back trying to straighten out, over compensated, my car spins around backwards. I hit a guard rail at 60.My car flys up in the air does a 180, then the nose catches a dirt embakment. YAY. Car does a 360, gets up on two wheels, then comes back down.
I ended up about 1/8 of a mile from where i started sliding. My crx was fukd. I called my friend to pull me out of the ditch. AND drove it home... drifting all the way. :) The wreck busted my radiator, front bumper, left front fender, rear bumper, riped my exhaust off, and set my subwoofers flying into my passengers seat. I honestly think that if i wouldn't have been wearing my seat belt i wouldn't have walked away from that. And the prick that pulled out in front of me drove on by, and fukn WAVED at me. If i ever find out who that was oh, there will be pain.

me and my friend were messing around in a parking lot compleetly out of site. someone had called the cops and two came out back. we stopped immediatly shut of our vehicles, gmc 2500 and jeep wrangler. the cop took our license. went back to his car. then he asked us to get out of our vehicles. i was scared shitless because i only had my license for a year and this was the third or fourth time they had ran my license. all he did was give us a speech on how it was illegal and could be a fellony if he wanted it to be. then he said he apreciated that we were doing it in an empty parking lot with no one around and learning to control our cars. then handed our licenses back and let us go.
