Just been out in my GTO TT did a few good runs but now she's choking like she's on 4/5 cylinders.
Though.....
Not all then time, only when she's under load, when sat there she can rev right up but idles irratically.

Under load she just chokes from 2000rpm and up its not the afm connector I checked and the boost hose seems fine, maybe its fueling??

how long have you had the car.
reason asking if you just got it some one might have been putting regular gas and you might be misfireing like you indicate but thats the best guess i got with out hearing it. plus i really don't know that much about these motors (still learning).

Always run it on 99+ octane and had the car for a while.

Its as if the arm butt connector isn't attached

99+ octane? I'd say just go with regular 93 octane unless your car is heavily modified. The octane boosters do give you power, but I'm cool with just spending money for regular gas and nothing else.

99 octane is readily available here in the uk also the car is an import from Japan so designed to run on 100 octane

99 octane costs like 92p per litre so relitively cheap. :grinyes:

99 octane overseas is just like our 93 octane. They only use one number where we use 2 then divide them by two. We use something like RON+MON/2 or something like that.

Our rating is an average of ron and mon ratings.;) Hence why its divided by two. Japan, Australia and lots of other countrys use only the higher of the two numbers but I cant recall which is which.

I think Japan uses a 100ron rating and as 99 has just been introduced here in the UK, and relitively cheaply, most of the street racing and moddified world are moving over to it.

It has actually been officially tested to give an extra 15bhp on a stock wrx in comparison to the 95ron petrol also available here, though all I can really notice is a smoother pickup and delivery no real performance gain just driveability :smile:

well anyways back to the question, it could just something as small as plugs and wires.. i had just bought mine, it had 150k miles, eh. it would bog down alot when i punched it, wouldnet even go in second gear. but yea try that

Well I'd pressure test for boost leaks, then change the plugs, then wires, adn finally check the 02 sensors...in that order.

All done and dusted :smile:

And.............

It was none of the above!!! Checked the system for leaks, heavy deposites on the plugs, lead resistance etc and it turned out to be much simpler :uhoh:

I had recently - being the day before - removed the fuel pump relay and hard wired it to run a permenant 12v as appose to the usual stepped process from 8.8volts at idle to 11.9 at full chat
Seems it had overloaded the system so I replaced the relay, disconnected ythe battery for 5 mins started her up and she's fine!!

You said it's imported from japan so it's designed to run 100 octane. Not to bust your bubble or anything, but your engine is identical as ours. It's not "designed" to run at 100 octane, but it can handle the higher octane just fine.

Supposedly their 100 octane is our 93 octane. At least I think that's what you're referring to.

i read just fine. i understand the difference between their octane ratings and our octane ratings. I should have clarified myself instead of making the post short in order to explain myself, but i guess I'll just have to make longer posts in the future so there is no confusion.

Alright to clarrify for you, jap performance cars are designed and timed to run a higher octane level (they call 100octane) that until recently was not available here.

Its already been covered that you use a diferent octane scale to everyone else, point being that if I was to put "OUR 95octane" in it would subsiquently damage the engine irreperably which is bad!
