odometer light

Hey, My friend has a 00 cavalier with 102k. Just recently when you push the wheel up for the cluster lights to brighten the odometer stays dim. I was wondering what may be causing this? Also, the shifter no longer lights up.. I was thinking maybe a fuse, but I'm not sure..
