I need info/advice on 85 MR2

I'm in the process of getting a 85 MR2 with some issues:
1. Headlights don't do anything when u try to turn them on.
2. Car starts right up, but when you give it the gas it sputters and dies, but if you give it the gas slowly it's fine.
Any information/advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
