my dad is about to buy a 1991 honda civic h/b dx and i was wondering if it came with a rpm gauge cuz im not sure if they do. it has 146k miles and has a few dents. how does $1800 sound?

nope, no tach's on the dx models (as far as I've seen)... an si cluster is easily swapped in though...bolts right up, plugs right in...

my DX came with a tach, altho its a crx, so i dont no if that matters.

seems a lil high for that much miles, try an offer between like 1300-1500 and see what they say.

Over here is california $1800 is one hell of a deal. When I was looking for H/B's ones with 200k were going for $2300

I got a 90 hatchback DX. So an Si gauge cluster will fit in perfectly to my Dx? I think i might swap mine. Will i have any wiring issues. What year Si will i need to get the gauge cluster from?

Thanks!

Someone bag on me if im wrong, but I believe that it is a direct swap to go from a DX to SI cluster. I have reason to believe it is this way because although the DX's have no clock, if you were to get one and take out the plate, all you would have to do is plug it in.

yea its plug n play, personally 1800 is a little high, I got mine in denver for 2100 with 115k miles and it needed a new clutch.

my dad took it to the garage and it turns out that the clutch is messed up bad and a few other stuff is also messed up so it isnt worth getting the car. back to looking for cars...:( im gonna keep you posted and ask you guys if the car i choose is a good price...... cuz im kinda new at this.
how much do u think a 92 honda si hatchback would cost in new york? i saw one go for $2000 1991 si hatchback black with 88k miles, i wish i got it. i missed it, someone else bought it already :( what a damn good price too.

do u guys know any good sites where i can search for used cars?

i tried cars.com and autotrader.com i dont know what else is good, thanx :)

Just wondering, what prompted you to notify MidNiteMysT that all preludes are coupes. Because I dont see any h/b or 4d reference.

Any 88-89 Civic/CRX Cluster will work in any 88-89 Civic/CRX, and any 90-91 Civic/CRX Cluster will work in any 90-91 Civic/CRX. And also you can put a clock in also. They are like $5 on ebay. Only hard part is getting the center vent off, 9/10 times you will break the clips, but if you had some way to kind of hook around the back and pull it straight out you might not break it. I broke my clips but I just drilled holes and put in some screws to hold it. And the wire harness for the clock is in every car anyway so it is plug and play.

ebaymotors, goto newsday classifieds also, just check NY papers, have tons of deals, that si for 2k would have been a steal.

found new car. 1992 prelude si 122k, black, manual, runs great, looks gd for 3700. thats what the ad says and i was wondering if thats a good deal. he said someone hit the rear a little so hes gonna drop the price a few 100 bucks. but otherwise what do you think??

Melt
06-06-2002, 09:41 PM
3700 seems high, especially if there is body damage. Offer him 3k, see what he says. I wouldnt pay more than that

MidNiteMysT
06-06-2002, 11:02 PM
you really think so? i thought the price would be more. he said he would take a few hundred off the price anyway so its gonna be about 3000. all i know is that i really want this car.

Hey fourthGenhatch: How do you get the center vents out to install the clock, I am looking for a clock right now and need to know how to get the center vents off.

Thanks. :sun:

I found you a car. Fly out to california. There is an 88 civic hb, 130,000 miles for $1500. Paint is bad and i dunno what else is wrong with it.

i appreciate you looking for me but i live in NY so going all the way there for a cheap car isnt worth it. shipping would be alot plus thats alot of mileage and pretty old car. ide rather pay 3000 for a car with lower mileage so i can aviod problems.

i paid 900 for my 88 dx an spent bout 150 to get it inspected.

Buying a car is like playing poker never reveal your card's
When u go to look at the car's u got to talk to the people like the car is crap an your doing them a favor for buying the junk thats what i do never say u like the car cause then they wont drop the price as much . Also it kills me when people say a that civic's got high miles so what a civic will run to 300,000 do u think u are really going to keep it that long plus more miles the car has the sooner u can drop a real motor in thats how i look at it :bloated:

Melt

I was just kidding around. I was pretty sure you werent down to fly to california

MidNiteMysT
06-07-2002, 06:20 PM
im glad you were cuz i was being nice about it. i was a little confused why you would list a hatchback in california and expect me to fly down there. actually, if i were to fly down there, i would probably stay cuz they probably have the hottest cars there. like car heaven :)

and 88b18, ill take your advice and do what u said. i guess im gonna have to try and hide the fact that i really want the car. gonna be hard though :)

i went to see the prelude today and wow. i was like . not in a good way

this car was so beat up, scratches EVERYWHERE, dent on the back left fender, other dents were there but fixed and covered with cheap black looking paint, rusted wheels, rusted to hell engine. cat hair all over, dash board all scratched up. i dont understand how the engine can get so rusted. it was like they took a engine from a junk yark and put it in. im sure the engine ran ok but i didnt bother taking a ride cuz it looked like shit. stereo was messed up. im surprised he didnt offer to pay for the gas that i used to get there. complete waste of time. im just gonna go with a civic hatchback till i get my full license, then ill spend enough to get a good condition prelude. about $8 should be enough to find a good prelude.
