shifting of transmission

I have a 95 Chev Monte and I had the transmission rebuilt a few months ago by AAMCO. It runs so much better now; the gear shifting is much smoother now. However, I have noticed in the mornings when starting the vehicle that the shifting from Park to Drive seems a bit stiff. Note that this only happens when it's cold (I live in a cold climate.) Once the vehicle has warmed up, the stiffness eases.

I took the car back by the AAMCO shop and asked them about it (thought it may need some lubrication/grease somewhere.) The technician there explained to me that this was due to the cable of the shifter; something that they did not replace when the transmission was rebuilt. He explained that for my car, it was probably about 6 feet long, and he wrote it off as the car is over 10 years old now and it's just a part of aging. However, what I'm puzzled about is why it has the problem when cold, but it ceases after it's warmed up. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Agreed, probably the problem, not the trans itself.
