Installing a new wiper linkage

I recieved my part today and i have a few questions. It came already assembled (drivers side connected to passager side) can i just safely detach the drivers side and connected it to my old passenger side. I dont really wanna go ahead and take out the whole linkage but if taking the drivers side off can cause it to fall, then ill take the extra time.

What do you guys think.
