Front Fog lights/Spotlights in 1997 Clio Oasis (RL)

I bought a set of brand new front foglights, to connect up to my clio RL, which normally just has covers over the mounts and fixtures.
I also bought a connector, which takes power from a connector off the loom (which goes round through the bumper) and splits it off to two connectors, which plug straight into the fog lights.
Also, i bought a new switch (from the dash of an RT for the front fog lights) which fits onto a connector on the loom (on the dash end) which is behind a cover, where the switch would go in the RT, under (and to the right of) the steering wheel.
Having linked the switch to the loom on the dash side, and the lights onto the other end (exactly as in the wiring of an RT i have seen), when I turn on the ignition/engine put on the lights, and the rear fog lights (if it has any effect), there is no light coming from my new front fog lights.
Also, there is power to the switch, it lights up when the ignition/lights are on, but when i tested for power at the other end of the loom (where the connector plugs in to split the power for the fogs) there was no power coming through at all.
If anyone knows why this might be, or how i can make the lights work without using the fuse box, please reply.
