i got the same and i make about 236, those years of the corolla wren't very fuel efficient.. the EFI models were better a bit.
oh and don't forget, it depends on how you drive, and the cold outside will have influence over a carbed engine.

Ive got an 88 Corolla, carb and it gets about 300 miles to the tank. If im on the highway I can get about 350 miles from the reg. gas and +/- 25 miles more from the premium. 218 miles to the tank isnt very good.

Could be anything from the rings going bad to the carb. It could also be something as simple as a vaccum line off or old plug wires. When was the last time it had a good tune up?

I've got a 11.1 gallon tank on my 92 Corolla, and can go 350 miles + on that. I get between 32-35 MPG.

wait wait wait here...don't forget it all depends on how you drive too..
if you do city driving alot where there some hills well that will not make things better.. the same if you take off fast at a traffic light then your MPG will go down.
i drive mine to the red line alot... depends on how i feel
so it's hard to judge that your car bad MPG and the other doesn't.
but dont get your hopes up, at that mileage compression does go down and sao do MPG.
