Security problem

I have a 94 Maro with a 3.4 L engine. I have the viper system which is as old as the car. Occasionally, the security light will come on on the dash. I cannot start my car for at least five minutes. It then goes out and I can start it. It's beginning to annoy me to death. Can someone help me figure out what the problem is? Thanks.

I have the same problem, what was the solution?

Is your viper system aftermarket? Cause your VATS is what is keeping the car from starting. There is a resistor in the key that the system checks to make sure it is the correct key, so it probably isn't working right.

First air(dry)Clean key and lock cylynder, try it. if that doesnt do it, either get a new key, or disable the pass key decoder, so it doesnt send that dont start signal...

Go to likeabigdog.com/vats. You will have to get your key checked for the correct number. Then go to radioshack, buy a resistor or series of resistors, which ever is closest to your number. solder the resistor to some wire, then in your car, follow the steering column, look for a orange wire, strip the wire, youll find two small white wires. Hook up one side of the wire to the other. I had no problem, was done in five mintues, and my car was sitting out of comission for a week, now back on the road. It will save you time and alot of money. Good luck.
