The 4th gen VTEC model has the h22, and every 5th gen has it.

4th Gen - 1992-1996
5th Gen - 1997-2001
Only 3rd and 4th Gens have an Si model I believe.

Yeah, the engine codes are on the block.
Go for the 4th gen, if you like nice interiors, and go with the VTEC model (h22 195hp).
SI 4th gens have H23's (160hp, non-vtec)
I have a 5th gen and they have a plainer interior, but all of them have the VTEC (H22), I like the way they look on the outside better.

yea you really only KNOW for a fact that its a h22 if you look under the hood...just look for the engine code it will say h22a1 or something similar to that...if you cant find that look for the vtec solenoid..

Or just rev up your car past 5k rpms and if you feel it pull harder you know you got vtec. :grinyes:
It should say h22a4, h22a1 is jdm.

It should say h22a4, h22a1 is jdm.
The H23s have secondary butterflys that open at around 4500 RPM creating a similar effect to VTEC. I wouldn't advise this to a novice.
Maybe start by looking at the valve cover if you are too lazy to get a flashlight and read the casting code.
