For the next engine to power the mustang what would you choose?
I personally like the 4L from the jag, it's light small displacement and with the supercharger as a awesome power band, with some tweaking a bit more aggressive cam, and exhaust system and a few more revs and it would easily pump out 450 hp

I would like to see the engine that was in development code named "Hurricane". But realistically I think we are going to be stuck with the 4.6 and its problems for a while. Something light weight (AL block) and still able to make over 400hp with out a power adder would be nice.

like said above. the jag. its a little smaller, but can be milked easily.

i think the 5.4 would be nice to have, as shown with the cobra R it is easily capable of reaching levels of power that are competitive with the gm and dodge v8s. and since then the engine has been even further developed.
i voted for the 5.4, but to be honest i think something that may be a good marketing scheme would be the number 5.0. Im not necessarily saying go back to pushrod motors, but maybe work on a developing an engine of that displacement that can generate good power and be reliable as i know the cammer motor is not the most reliable of engines. plus its to damn expensive.
whats this hurricane engine your talking about?

Code-named Hurricane was a 6.2-liter V8 to be Ford's response to the 5.7-liter Hemi.
Now the GR-1's V10 would be great but it has also been shelved. The 6.4-liter V-10 engine produced 605 horsepower was lighter than the 550hp supercharged 5.4 in Ford GT.

I am not a big fan of the displacement dropping lower than 4.6, anything bigger is a bonus to me.

Displacement is not always the correct answer to the power question same as with the addition of a power adder such as a SC. Let’s take a quick look at the 400bhp mark in V8 DOHC NA engines. It took Ford using the 5.4 in R form to reach near this mark not to surpass it but just to reach near it. Maserati is producing 400bhp out of a 4.2L that’s 1165CC less than the displacement of the 5.4 yet it produces more power.
The misconception about Ford going to a Heaton because they were unable to produce the power numbers they wanted to see out of the 4.6 with out one is totally untrue. Had Ford taken the time to correctly build up the 4.6 (with parts they have had for years none the less) then it would have easily been able to reach the 400bhp mark and been lighter. I know of at least one person who has surpassed the 400rwhp mark out of a 01 Cobra with just bolt ons including the FR500 heads, cams, and intake.

I am aware that power can certainly be made without monster displacement. Its just one of those things that I like to hear. If there were two cars that were both equiped with a 350 hp motor, one being a 4 liter and another being a 5 liter, I would go with the 5 liter car. (I understand that displacement will in some cases cause the physical dimentions to limit the options of the frame and suspension, such as in the case of the 05 Mustang)

a tweaked 5.4 would be awsome

Even with the projected 50-75hp more and the additional .8L the G500 is only propelled to 60mph .2 seconds faster than the 03/04s. So it’s not really a worth while trade off in that case especially once you take in to consideration that it will not be as easy to mod as the last 03/04s were.

It is possible for a couple of the next SE Mustang (Mach1 or Bullet) to have a 5.4 in order to compete with the upcoming Dodge Challenger and its 5.7L and 6.1L Hemi. However this could be a while off since the next SE Mustang is scheduled to be a California Special. I don’t think the California Special will be much more than a pony package for the GT or at best kind of like the last Bullet not much more than fancy interior and a revised intake based off of but not near as good as the SVE part and not to forget the ugly 5” wide vinyl stripe down 3/4 of the side of the car.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't talking down on the 03/04 cobras at all. That is one of my favorite motors on the road right now. That motor has legs to it, I would like to see it used in other applications.
