1997 Escort Alarm Problem

My girlfriend has a 1997 Escort SE. When she pushes the door lock button twice on the remote to activate the alarm, about 20 minutes later, the alarm starts going off.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't take this as an insult but why bother to set the alarm? Do people really steal 8 year old Escorts where you live? That's one thing nice amout an Escort. The thieves want Hondas, Toyotas and pickup trucks. :2cents:

No I understand but it also starts honking when you lock the car with the remote. Also I don't want it to get any worse if it can somehow.

I had trouble, too, with the horn going off after locking the door with the remote. A friend who works for an independent garage told me the Ford Workshop Manual contains a 50 page section that covers the electronic locking and anti-theft module. He said I would have to take it to the Ford Garage and I would be spending a minimum of $250 to get it fixed. I don't lock it now and leave nothing of value in the car because I don't want somebody to break my window. Besides, like AzTumbleweed says: Who wants to steal a Ford Escort anway?

The other day I went Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart. Locked up the car and got about 25 feet and the horn started blowing. The first thought that went through my head is the fact that I don't have an alarm system. Turned around and immediately saw the problem. I had left my wife in the car! :bs:
