Welcome to the group!!! Remember always "Search first, Ask questions later"
It would help us to help you if you would give us more info on your rig. Like...Year, engine, transmission, is it lifted?, what size tires, etc...
Also, pictures of the steering set-up would help if you have them.

Possibly the U-joint in the steering shaft is binding or a bearing is bad in the steering column, or there is something interfering with free movement.
I get the feeling the problem lies between the steering wheel and steering box.
IMO be careful, your Jeep is probably not safe to drive until its fixed.

Is it hard to steer only in certain spots or across the full range? Try jacking up the front so both wheels are off the ground (use safety stands too), then turn the wheels and see if it's any easier. If it's a lot easier, your pump or steering box could be bad (internal leaking).
Also check for any binding or loose joints. While your down there, give everything a shot of grease.

Beth,
See if there is a steering stabilizer shock on the front of the steering linkage. These will bind if they go bad.
It can be removed to check it out. See if its ok without it in the parking lot.
Has this truck been in an accident? The steering box could be damaged.
You could have ball joints seizing as well.
