1997 Grand Caravan - Accident ?

Hey,

I was rear ended on Thursday of last week. The guy probably hit me going 35-45 mph while I was stopped. The van took the hit pretty well.

The bumper is cracked and sagging down a little. There was no metal/body damage that I could see.

Has anyone else had a similar accident? Reason I ask is that I would like to get an estimate of how much damage was done. I am not sure if I will get it fixed or not, I might just save the money for when the tranny decides to give out again.

Well get a estiamate and go from there.
You never know when they get hit that hard.
Look it over good. Also sometimes trans damage can happen in a accident like that to.

Yeah, I have an appointment to have it get looked at on Friday...but I was trying to see what others got for an estimate so I know if they are being fair.

Won't insurance cover it? I'd think the other driver's insurance would pay for it...or yours if they only have liability/no-fault.

Yup....there insurance will cover it. I just wanted to get a ballpark guesstimate to see what to expect.

Well you can not go by someone else accident.
Ever accident is different. You may even want to get two estimates to be on safe side.

Our '00 CG was rearended by a '83 Thunderbird going about 45mph. After crushing the bumper all the way to the frame, the car lifted off of the ground and came through the rear tailgate and hit the rear bench seat my son was sitting in. After the car was pulled out of the back of the van, the imprint in the tailgate was so detailed that you could tell what kind of car hit it. It doesn't take a real hard hit to the rear to cause the vehicle to be totalled. If the rear (or front) subframe gets sprung (mis-shaped) then the vehicle is toast because it can never be aligned to drive straight. Most body shops will not check this because they want the money for the repair rather than a declared total, in which they get no money.
