I know there is a lot of FUD (Fear, uncertainty and doubt) when it comes to using anything but ATF 3+, so i was wondering if anyone had tried synthetic tranny fluid?

I bought a couple gallons of the AMSOIL-recommended synthetic trans fluid for our 99 T&C before I knew about all the tranny problems people are having. Now I am wondering if I should just save it for another car.

I know this isn't going to make you feel any better, but for anyone with over 80,000 miles on their minivan, there will always be some FUD whenever you turn the key and go for a ride.

Replacement transmissions are rites of passage with these vehicles, even on a good day. At 224,000 miles, I've had 3 transmissions in mine (including the one that came with it when I bought it brand new),

Dodge made me a believer in keeping my AAA membership up to date. I digress... I wonder what Chrysler has to say about the new synthetics on the market... does anyone know?

P.S. In fairness though, the 3.8L 6-banger in my Caravan is the best motor I've ever owned over the past 35 years, bar none. WAY better than anything I've owned from Japan (several). :)

In '00 I bought a '00 GC 3.3l brand new. At about 25K miles I had the filter and fluid changed. I had Amsoil synthetic put in at that time. At 100K miles I had it done again. The transmission always worked perfectly up until the 130K mark, then someone ran a red light and totalled the van. So I don't know how many more miles it would have gone. It wasn't showing any sign of wearout. Bought a used '00 GC 3.8l to replace it with 85K miles. Transmission was slipping some so I got a really good deal on it. Turns out that the local Oil Can H3nrys had done a fluid change on it and had put dextron in it. I changed the fluid and it has worked ever since, now have 120K miles on it.

Cry has come out with a tsb on changing a lot of there trans over to ATF+4 cry trans fluid which is synthetic trans fluid.
Also the newer crys already come out with it.
You may be better off using it instead of other synthetic fluids. Because it should have all of the additives your cry trans needs.
