Hi Everyone,
The Kia dealership is still working on my Sportage. I have since learned that they did not replace the Fuel Pump which means the person who told me that they did lied. I am now at the level of frantic paranoia about this since I depend on this vehichle to safely transport my infant daughter to and from day care. I don't understand how an electrical problem can explain the car starting up fine, driving for ten feet on a sputter of fuel and then stalling. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, any advice, help or knowledgable explanations would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end.

As a starter or helper , check these out:

Similar problem have been reported on several forums and no clear and definite solution was provided: bad grounds have been suggested, fuel pump relay (quite often) , as well as defective anti theft devices.
One common problem is the Crank Position sensor but generally this starts as difficulty with starting, or car will start and then refuse to start again after a short stop a few minutes later.
Of course basic causes such as clogged fuel filter must be first ruled out....and while fuel pumps have been changed by the dozen, they rarely ended up as being the real problem...there was always "something" else....Caught with the same I'd install a connection to check if voltage is always fed to the pump or if for any reason it cuts out after "a few seconds", in which case I'd install a direct feed switch or the like to the fuel pump to ensure I can use the car until the real cause is found. FUel pump can be energized directly from the fuse position in car fuse box. At least this can establish if fuel pump operation is in fact involved in your problem.

Ask the technicians to check the fuel pump and EGI relays to make sure that they are operating properly.
There is also a connector near the battery that I have seen with corrosion which is the power source to the fuel pump.
Also the ECM will not turn on the fuel pump if it does not see a crank signal.
If the crank signal goes away the fuel pump shuts down.
The crank sensor should be checked.
