'95 Trooper - Blower not blowing - Help

OK. I've searched the forum here and actually think I've found my problem, but I'm hoping for some additional help.
As others have mentioned here, one day my heat stops blowing air. Prior to searching here, I automatically assumed it was the heater blower motor. After all it is 10 yrs old. Purchased the new motor, installed, turned on, and...nothing. Hmmmmm.
Now I check the fuses. Everything appears to be ok.
Here is my first question:
Obviously there is a fuse on the fuse panel (25A I believe) for the blower. Is there another fuse or relay that could be bad? I checked the fuse/relay box by the battery, but couldn't identify anything blower related there. Is this correct?
I pulled the fuse (blower fuse) at the fuse box and checked for power with the key in the ACC position. Nothing. Is this correct? Doesn't seem right to me. SHould the car be running before I check for power? And if there is no power at the fuse box for the blower what does that mean?
From searching last night, it looks like it may be an issue with my alternator. Without pulling it, or taking it to Autozone, etc. to have the charging system checked, is there a way for me to determine whether it is my alternator or not? I'm pretty mechanically inclined, however I'm not an auto electronic whizz( reading electrical schematics is out of the question). I do have a voltmeter, so I could use that, but what am I looking for?
Finally, my other thought may be the fan speed switch on the dashboard. Before I replace that I want to make sure that it's bad. I'm guessing that if I don't have power at the fuse box (before the switch) it won't be a bad switch, correct?

I too am a newbie to this forum. I have a 95 Trooper with 145K mile on it. I have had an issue with my blower for years. Sometimes it just doesn't work. I don't know how I stumbled upon this but it works for my truck. If the blower is not working I flip the lever that controls the air flow from fresh air to recirculation or visa versa and it starts blowing. No rhyme or reason to it it just does. It doesn't matter if its a/c or heat sometimes the blower doesn't spin and throwing that lever from one side to the other a time or two makes it start working again. Go figure. I also havea gremlin that throws the fuse breaker for the power windows too. For that one I just open the kickpanel fuse cover and reset the breaker and works fine for months. Good luck!! :smile:
