electrical trouble

Aight guys i got a 96 aurora and whike i was installing a new radio the wiring harnesss i brought was pre spliced and when i turned my car on to see if tha radio wored all the lights in my gauges , my a/c and information center wenty out. they all still work but there is no lights. if anyone could give me a pointer before i jus dive in and take tha dash apart it would be greatly appreciated

Good luck...I've been having a similar electrical problem with the IP / computer that I've had a devil of a time finding. My gauges are intermittent. But enough about me...;)

Most cars have a dimming signal that dims all the dash gauges uniformly base on the dimmer setting. It's usually a PWM signal that dims all the gauges based on the the duty cycle. It sounds like you've done something to that line. Perhaps your new radio jumper harness doesn't has opened this line? You've probably already checked fuses but try there if not.

If you have a DVM then probe around the original wires until you find one that varies in DC voltage (anywhere between 12 - 0) while you are turning the dimmer switch. This is the one that controls your interior dimming.
