2005 Malibu Remote Starter Faliure

My 2005 Mailbu remote starter is not working correctly. I lock the car and push the start button. My lights flash on so I know its not a battery issue, but the car won't start. My check engine light is on, but Auto Zone determined that is due to another issue with my gas cap. Could this be causing my remote starter to not work? Any help would be great.

I would say that's the reason, lots of things won't work with a check light on for different reasons.

Yes - remote start won't work if you have a check engine light. If you have a Maxx then I suggest that dealer could look at a TSB regarding likely cause
