Shock Bushings

Hey Guys,

I have a '99 1500 4x4, 360cid, auto trans. I bought the truck with about 100k miles on it, and it had a little clunk in the front end. I bounced it up and down and found that the lower shock bushings were both sloppy. I replaced the shocks, and that took care of the clunk, but only for a short time. The lower bushings are shot again after only a few thousand miles. I'm at a loss as to why this is. Any ideas?

Are you sure you got them tight enough? There is a little slop between the bolt and bushing but once you tighten them it will go away. The lower bolts should be torqued to 100ft/lb and the upper nuts on the rear should be 60ft/lbs. If you don't have access to a torque wrench, 100ft/lbs extremely tight using a rachet and quite tight if you use a breaker bar. My '99 did the same thing. I replaced the shocks a few months ago and has been fine ever since.

I did not put a torque wrench on them when I tightened them down. I pulled pretty hard, but you're probably right. I'll try that; thanks.

Turns out the bolt is worn out. I've ordered replacements for both front from the dealership.
