i'm working on a ford taurus try'n to replace tha cmp and found the reluctor wheel to be all bent up can any one tell me wether or not i can bend it back? the customer cannot aford to buy a reluctor wheel

I'm not a mechanic, but this same thing happened to me on my '97 and I ended up replacing both the sensor (~$35) and the synchronizer below it (~$120) because my unit was very mangled. I suppose if it had been damaged only slightly, I would've tried bending it back, but if I remember right, doesn't this piece have a natural curve to it (like a half moon shape)? How are you going to restore that shape? I doubt you could do it with the unit installed (if at all), and if you're going to remove it, you might as well replace it because it's a pain to get out...

Give it a try. I remember the metal being fairly thick and the gap in the CMP fairly small, and the piece was distorted badly as well in my case. But if you can get it reshaped to a 'good enough' condition, you have saved some money.

You should replace the syncronizer or you risk damaging your new cps and that would not be good :grinno:
