Hey all im new to the blazer world. i just got a 1995 black blazer Lt yesterday. it has some problems.
1. biggest problem is the tranny (i think) when driving cruising at 45 on the back roads and the rpms sitting about 2500 rpms you can see the rpm flucuating between a few hundred rpms like 2 or 300 it difficult to tell if its a slip because the rpm goes up and you can feel a pull like im tapping the gas. your head goes back not front like a slip... i dont get it...
2. when you first start it up it has a miss but only for a few minutes then its fine... i dont get that either...
3. the steering is horrible!!! it has horrible travel before its turns. im talkin 6 inches each way... im thinking steering box needs adjust ment does anyone know how to do that? when the wife gets home im going to check tie rods and steering box and stuff im hopeing its just the steering box.

I can tell you from owning three blazers that they are known for idler arm wear, and ball joints. If your idler arm is bad dont replace it with a elcheepo part from autozone or advance auto. Go with MOOG chassis parts. Yes the ones from autozone and other places have lifetime warranty, but are they going to replace it everytime that part fails and pay for the 4 wheel allignment as well? NO! I did the autozone thing and twice a year it ate another idler arm. I put MOOG in (advice from my buddy that owns a garage) and have not had a problem in a year and a half. Good luck

I agree 100% on the MOOG replacements parts. That's all I use in all of my cars. Spend just a little more but no problems afterwards.
As for your other problems. When was the last time you done a tune-up? Plugs, Cap, Rotor, & Wire set? You also mite want to take a look at your EGR Valve. Make sure that you don't have any carbon chunks blocking the plunger. Clean it up and make sure the the plunger moves freely and closes all the way. Hope this help. Good Luck.........

Make sure that the trans fluid is light red in color and not dark red. If dark red, Change trans fluid and filter. Then again, being the you have no history on this car. You should just go ahead and service the trans.

Burnt trans oil just smells bad. You don't have to have a leak to smell it. The vapers come through your vent of your trans , which is located on the top of your trans and just have a way in getting into your car.

makes sense. you very knowledgable.. do you have all those blazers now??
my trans seem to shift slow between gears and this morning it slipped hard core into 3rd i had to let off the gas so it would shift. i heard the 4l60-e trans had alot of problem but i have no clue if this was every replcaed i never heard of one lasting 201756miles so i am guessing it had to be changed when i take it in for the trans service tomaro to my work do you think it will take care of the smell slip and slow shifting??
im hoping yes...

Yes I do own those Blazers in the pictures. I just love working on them. Thanks. After you replace the fluid and filter in the trans. You should notice a difference in your shifting. As for the smell. That should go away as well, if not right away. After you cab had a chance to air out. Your rugs, seat and headliner do retain odors.

Well like I said, the smell is coming from the trans vent on the top of the trans. It will go away. As for your front end. It sounds like you need to do a good inspection of your Ball Joints, Tighrod Ends, Idler Arm, and Upper & Lower Control Arm Bushing. If your not that good in figuring out what is bad and good. You could take it down to a alignment shop and have them inspect it for you, then get the paper work on whats defective and replace it your self. Most times your Ball Joints are shot and needs to be replaced. The Blazers are known for that.
