2001 740 dashboard menu screen

My screen just went dead. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem and if so how extensive are the repairs? Also i just bought this car last month and have not had it serviced yet. Does anyone have recommendations as to bring it to the dealer for this kind of work or find a private mechanic instead. So far i am loving this car
