got it in june. so far, brake light stayed on, they adjusted it.
now they say i have a hole in the front part of my exhaust, but wont tell me what the part is called, only that it cost $300 to repair/replace.
last nightmy brake light stayed on, so i removed the fuse.
then when i started it, it was fine but now it wont even shift out of park.

Sounds like they are talking about the exhaust manifold or maybe flex pipe. If it's the manifold then you can remove the heat shield, and look for cracks. When you find some it is possible to grind them with a Dremel tool along the crack forming a "V". Then you can slap on some manifold cement (J B weld would also work) leave the heat shield off until you test it out, just let it set for as long as you can before firing it up so the exhaust pressure doesn't force it out.
If it's the flex pipe, then a lot of mufler tape can keep it a little quieter if you don't want to replace it. But they're probably trying to sell you an original equipment piece. Any muffler shop will have aftermarket pieces that will work just as good if not better for $150 installed. Just tell them you're shopping around for the cheapest fix.
As for the auto tranny....as soon as you fix the brake switch it will work. It's just a manufacturers precaution to make sure you have the brake on before engaging drive.
Let me know how things worked out. Good luck!

Thanks you are most helpful. Im going to get my brother in law to fix the exhaust thing. Im sure he can do it.
The dealership, of course, said that its a HUGE job to do. However my brother in law, fixed my old tercel by redoing the valves and stuff. so Im sure he can handle a little exhaust.
