Hi. I have a 03 Cavy with the 2.2 L DOHC ecotec engine. I have heard that Gm is coming out with a pretty decent supercharger for this engine. But when i look for it, i can not find it. Have they come out with it yet? Or am i just looking in the wrong places? Does anyone have any information on it?

Pretty sure its out, look harder. Isnt that was Jayson has?

I believe jason is rollin on the 2.4 motor not the eco. The eco gm s/c is out but its a bitch and a half to find on gmpartsdirect.com if you dont know the part number and fuck if I can remember it. Give them a jingle and they should be able to tell you whats up. I believe it will run you around $3000.

fuck that for $3000 you can get the 2.0L S/C from the cobalt. for i believe i heard $3800 you can get the whole kaboodle - engine, tranny, ecu, wiring harness.

shit for $3000 you can build a turbo kit that'll make both of those options look stupid. I'm doin the whole build w/ clutch and management for my GSR for $2600.....and that's tuned to ~300whp....

Its easier to ma a integra faster. Cavaliers are a bit harder and i would say get the cobaltss motor.

sorry i cant spell ohh and i also i forgot to say that for the fact that cobalt comes with a s/c its already a stonger motor than any ecotec because its a motor built enough to hold a supercharger that you could also be upgraded with a pulley system.

I know its supercharged, but even so....it doesn't make that much power and that supercharger is going to make about 250whp at max....

AHAHAHAHAHH WTF are you talking about...Shows how much you know about those cars. They come stock anywhere from 200 to 215 WHP and thats about 230 - 245 at the crank. Theres a guy on the cobaltss.net site thats pushin 254whp with just a intake, pulley and cat-back. SO hows that one working for you schister?

whoa watch out! Calm the fuck down dude....I'm just saying that they're limited on the amount of power that they can make w/ that supercharger....i like turboing a lot better than supercharging. Sorry i don't know anything about the damn Cobalt SS...like i care...
go take your Ritalin and lie down
and 254 isnt a HUGE deal....i'll get my car tuned in the summer and i'll post the dyno graph....254<300....and btw thats boosted.....I'd like to see the stock supercharger do that....

Yesterday i got it dynoed again and this time i have the 3.0" pulley ($65), drop in Spectre air filter ($18) and dynomax muffler ($135). DRUM ROLL..........put down 253.10hp/221.56. HELL YEAH not bad $218 for 38hp gain. The only problem is that the car is making hp all the way to redline. NEED that reflash with higher redline to see the full potential of our cars.

Im not saying the engines suck, i'm saying that GM needs to make a factory contender to the SRT...the SRT pretty much owns the SS hands down. And im not a fan of superchargers, i think that they are a waste of money because a turbo kit has so much more potential for power....if you want say 400whp out of the SS, you have to ditch the whole supercharger and get a new one....while w/ a turbo it could be as simple as buying a $45 boost controller and maybe bigger injectors.....
I just think GM is falling behind in the sport compact scene because they don't turbo, they supercharge.....but i have to give them props for at least doing something. I'm not against the car, i looked at buying a red one. I just thought that it was kinda gutless for the sticker price since an SRT was almost the same price and they are quite a bit faster and the SS had limited potential.

Well then why dont u but the SS and turbo it. Put the turbo piping into the supercharger intake and there you go. Dont know if thats how you do it but it is possible to supercharge and turbo a car. VW does it.

Dude just to let you know i prefer turboing too but for our cars its a bit more complicated. Meaning our motors arent made for turbo just supercharger, if you want to boost you could, but you could only prob boost like 7psi and then if you go any higher your motor will be in danger. There are so many factors to turboing a car than most people know about. While supercharger is ALOT more simpler just upgrading it with a pulley system is enough. And with our cars just making past 200hp is like wtf because we dont weigh alot either.

I agree w/ schister. Turbo's have more potential, but their power only comes on in higher rpm's and then there is the issue of tubo lag, which is HORRIBLE on small displacement engines. S/C's have pretty good potential, especially in all around torque, they pull no matter what gear u are in or how high ur rpm's, PLUS they are simpler to install. now on the topic of srt-4's vs. cobalt ss. I think that if the cobalt had the 2.4 ecotec instead of the 2.0, it would come close to the srt-4, if not surpass it. They are both good cars, AND american made which makes me like them even more so ill take either one over my cavy...........just my 2 cents

You can now get the cobalt with the 2.4 ecotec. Frankly if I had my way and the money I would swap to the 2.4 eco motor and slap the GM s/c onto that sucker and have some fun.

7psi and your motor is in danger?? If you're talking about the SS you don't have a clue and if you're talking about a regular Cavalier, they can hopfully withstand some power. Its not necessarily the psi that kills the engine, its the amount of power that the car makes that wrecks things.

No i meant you can prob boost 7 and have no problems but going higher than that is dangerous. And that goes for the turbo not supercharger.

why would it only go for the turbo and not the supercharger....if they were equally matched, the turbo and the supercharger would move the same amount of air under the same amount of pressure into the engine, if anything it'd be safer from the turbo because the air is intercooled so it isn't as hot.
PsychoJJ

You can intercool an s/c though as well.

ok to clear some things up. . .
-2.2L ecotec, no GM supercharger available yet. Dont hold your breath for it either.
-Stock Ld9 can handle 12-15PSI on stock internals as long as the tune is right.
-Stock Ecotec can handle 12-20PSI on stock internals with a good tune as well
-Superchargers Vs. Turbos, is by the far the most pointless on going debate ever.
-The 2.4L ecotec is a horrible candidate for boost, 10.6:1 compression ratio is just suicide if you try and boost it.

Thanks for the info jayson LOL. By the way if you got forged piston, rods etc. On the 2.4L with a supercharger that thing would haul some major ass. IMO the 2.4L with those upgrades would hand the SS/SC its ass due to the displacement. I love the SS/SC though.
