Wacky Climate Control

Hello, fellow Cadillac enthusiasts. Do we wonder why sometimes? They do have a certain sort of charisma. Also a lot of problems or potential problems to go with all the comfort and lux. Ah well.
Just bought a 96 Seville STS which is more or less straight, has all the bells and whistles, most of which work (except for the pull-down trunk assist motor, the heated passenger seat and maybe one or two minor gizmos I can't think of right now. . .not sure about the CD changer in the trunk: don't have a cartridge/magazine to stick in there). Very comfortable ride. Can also hammer, jam on down the road if need be, with that mighty North Star. It likes to drink a little too much oil; you just have to keep your eye on it.
The main bugaboo, annoyance, is the climate control system. Why would it blow warm air on the driver's side and cold (outside air) on the passenger's? This would be through the vents on the floor, right side, and center right. Back seat blower also blows hot. But the passenger in the front seat, meanwhile, freezes. WTH? :screwy:
I know the AC needs charging. Could this somehow have something to do with this malfunction? Hey, anything's possible with a 'lac, especially the ones that are computers on wheels.
I'd really appreciate input or suggestions on this. Thanks very much.
