resistor size HELP!

grand am 1996...does anyone know the resistor size needed for a remote starter? i don't know how to measure..it contains 3 cords. any help appreciated. thanks.

If this is what I think you are asking about, it could be any of a number of resistors needed. This is a security measure designed to keep your car from starting without the correct key. The resistor is in the key itself, there should be a small plastic black square with a metal strip across it up near the handle of the key on both sides - these strips are the contacts for each side of the resistor, which is embedded in the key. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance by using those contacts, and your reading will give you the size of the resistor you need to install on the system.
Newer systems are more complex as they use a transmitter in the key rather than a simple resistor, and they require a more expensive module to fool the passkey system. Your version is much easier to work around.
