Is the vehicle's front drivetrian still engaged, or is it simply the green dashboard light isn't going off right away?
If it's the light, then perhaps the differential switch needs to be cleaned and adjusted. It's located underneath, in the center slightly toward the front. Is protected by a metal guard and has a vacuum line and wire connected attached to it.
Remove it carefully, note the location of any washers, give it a good inspection looking for wear on the detent ball, If it's boogered up they cost under $60. If it's good, give the whole area a good cleaning and put it back it.
Worth a try?
