My step son has a CRX with a 1.6 VTEC 5 speed stick and he wants to change to a 1991 2.2 16 valve accord engine w/automatic trans. I need to know if this can be done and if anyone has been able to actually do it yet. If this works he will get a 2.2 16 valve for FREE and actually make money since someone wants to buy his old tranny for $150. His mother wants him to have a auto as he doesnt drive a stick well and has already gotten a ticket due to his inability to negotiate hills, can any one help with some info??????

Anything can be done with enough welding skill.

The F22 Accord motor will not be an easy swap!!!

A B16 (1.6) w/Vtec is about as good as it get's for these cars. If you want an automatic just swap the tranny or buy a different car.

But what I really need to know is can the automatic trans be switched from a 2.2 to a 1.6 VTEC, the engine is okay to leave , but the tranny is what we really need to know more about

no you cannot mismatch trans and engine the f22 will not be a difficult swap if you have excellent care knowledge but if you don't then i would say you should consult with a professional. the swap isn't hard from a d15/d16 to a b16 with an auto trans i would rather send you on a path with that one first but since you say it's free. you can try it. i'm not garenteeing anything

something i forgot to mention is i know alot of people with h22's and f22's in crx's. it's alot of work to get it there and can take several monthes if you don't have a lift, alot of welding tools, the proper knowledge of wiring, and a cherry picker. but it can be done. if you live in california or you can bring it to me i'll help. thats all i can offer since i infact own an 87 crx
