If the plug is on the drivers side of the engine, just below the thermostat housing, it's your coolant temperature switch leaking. There is a heater hose that has an o-ring that goes in just below that which could also be leaking and making the sensor appear to be leaking.

there is a hose running from the radiator to the same area but it is not leaking

yep, then you are talking about the coolant temp sensor. If the sensor somehow cracked and is leaking, you can get one at any auto parts store for about $15-$20.

Have the new sensor ready to limit coolant loss (coolant will leak out when you remove it). After changing it out, take the car back to Auto-Zone/Advance and have them reset the code. The old "unhook the battery" trick doesn't work on 96-newer vehicles.

if im not mistaken it sounds like a 4 cylinder car, and since coolant doesn't run thru the intake on 4 cyl, thats probably not the problem. Sounds like either a temp senor or broken plastic water neck. Just what i gather from the facts given, giving motor size or # of cylinders always helps find the problem.

He mentioned the car was a GT, and most if not all GT's are V-6's
