How difficult is and what is involved in replacing the Pitman arm on a '97 2WD 4dr Tahoe? I am pretty good with tools, but is this something best left to a shop?

A pitman arm puller really helps. On my 90 K1500 pickup, I had to unbolt the steering gear box and rotate it 90 degrees to get the puller onto the pitman arm. Not sure if anything is in the way on your 97 2wd.

A pickel fork or a big hammer (I use a deadblow hammer) is needed to get the pitman arm separated from the center link.

Not a hard job if you have the right tools. You may be able to rent the pitman arm puller at a tool rental store.

An alignment should be done after replacing the pitman arm.
