Any suggestions on how to buy a 2006 Civic EX Sedan?

Hello Honda folks,
I'm interested in buying my first Honda.
I like the 2006 Civic EX sedan (Though I wish they had a wagon).
Does anyone have any good ideas or experiences on how
to get a good price for a brand new one? Even Carsdirect
doesn't have much of a discount!
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

That will depend upon demand in your area. Where I live, the LX is in demand. I negotiated a price on an LX and when I was done, the dealer offered to take $500 off of an EX. I said I liked the LX, but would split the difference between the LX and EX.
Done. The dealer can sell the LX a lot easier than the more expensive EX. And I really did like the LX.
if I had wanted to buy the EX, that wouldn't have happened. And if the EXs had been in great demand, it wouldn't have happened.

This is what I did....
Honda's website allows you to get online offers from various dealers in your area. What I did was to get 3 offers from the closest dealers.
The closest did not budge on price. The next closest came down $200.00. The furthest, came down $600.00. So I took the Email from the dealer that quoted $600.00 off and emailed it back to the closest dealer (who didn't come down) who I wanted to buy from.
The closest dealer seeing that another dealer came down, then came down to $700.00 off. I then then went to the dealer, with pre-approval for a loan, with an out the door price. That price was an additional $100.00 more + change. They agreed to the price and I got the LX which was stickered at 17860.00 for $17,005.00 + tax and title...
Get the dealers competing for you business using the internet. Even if they are 20 miles or more apart it doesn't matter... People will drive for the right price.
Oh, by the way, the negotiating was initially basd on the EX model. Not the LX.... My wife and I decided to go with LX to save on our monthly payment. So I had the dealer at $700.00 off of an EX and then came down $800.00 for and LX...
Food for thought.

Great buy! It is hard to get price off of a new model that is in demand. I did exactly the same with my wife's 05 Accord LX. I just made the dealers compete. It is okay to walk out of a dealer and actually, you should walk out. Because they really drop the price when you do.
Anyways, we got the car for $17,800 + tax and lic etc. Joihan777, you can contact the dealers internet sales and ask them for a quote. A fax is a great way to receive quotes. Then have the dealers compete for it. Also I hear the end of the month, and end of the year is a great time to buy a car, because they are trying to meet that sales quota. If one dealer does not offer you a good price, then on you go to the next.

Thanks for your input everyone.
I used KBB to ask for offers from 5 area dealers.
The lowest bid came in at $18,371 for an EX with everything except
the navigation package (maps are cheaper IMO).
I figured that was a pretty good price for N. California.
I would go to my closest dealer with this email bid in hand to see if
they would go even lower!:naughty:
HOWEVER, now I must wait until June to see what the new VW Golf
will look like. (Slightly heavier & safer, tidier dimensions, good mpg)
Plus I must sell my Isuzu "War Pony" first!
Thanks again everyone for your thoughts.
If we decide on the Honda, you'll be seeing more of me around here!

johann

Well I just went and got my 06 Civic LX, (I love this car) I had gone to the dealership looking for a EX 5-speed, they only had one Civic on the lot and it was an LX with an auto. I had cash in hand and was planning to buy a Civic somewhere that day so they searched the other dealers inventories for me and could only find a DX and another LX in stock within 200 miles. Because they wanted to sell the car they had and because I was going to buy one regardless of it was from them or not, I got $1000 knocked off the sticker price on the LX, can you say sold?
