How about this

I got a '95 Civic with 114,000 miles on it used (1 owner) for 6,000 USD. After the 2 yr. warranty, the spoiler, the new sound system, mudflaps, spark plugs, 1 minor crash into a Galant, new tires, and alot of TLC, it came out to <8,500 USD. Perfect history and well maintained with great engine. Now it looks like this:

that wing is kinda ricey.... looks like the only exterior mod though

what purpose does that spoiler serve??? to slow you down on the highway??

If you don't like it you don't have to tell me that! Call it ricey if you wish, but it serves a pupose. In case you were unaware, spoilers aren't only for downforce at 100+ miles per hour. This particular spoiler increases stability, cuts down on body roll in corners, reduces that shaking feeling when a large vehicle passes you, looks good, and most certainly does not slow you down. I wanted one this high so that my rearward vision would not be blocked. I wanted something to make my car stand out slightly from all the other red civics out there, so I gave it a big spoiler. I guess I should be happy instead of mad, b/c you just said my car looked fast. Furthermore it proves what a good deal I got! So thanks, and the rice is on me:)

ask anybody on AF they'll tell you a wing creates drag and therefor slows down your car...... not by much, but the point is to make your car faster

and the amount of drag created depends on the wing and how much air it catches

gang$tarr is correct. everybody knows that. there is more air resistance against your car so it slows it down. e.g. the Mac F1 does 240. the F1 LM does "only" around 225, in case you didnt know, the LM has a wing. and the LM has 680 hp compared to the 627 hp F1. and i think everyone wants to know how that spoiler cuts down on body roll. that spoiler doesnt act as an anti-roll bar or strut bar, they're supposed to create downforce, but i dont know what yours does.

Look, regardless of anything else a wing does, it adds weight. Specifically, it adds weight to the rear of the car, and 99 times out of 100 it's also adding weight above the car's center of gravity. This may be beneficial in RWD cars to afford better contact with the road, but only it the power of the car and the benefit of the increased contact can overcome the drawback of the extra weight.

The fact that the extra weight is above the center of gravity will force anyone with a rudimentary grasp of physics to realize it will not reduce body roll. The only possible way it could is if the vertical portions of said wing were fashioned as tailfins on a plane. But unless they are controlled by the driver to point the same direction as the car is turning, they are just more dead weight. If they were fashioned as fins and each was pointed to its respective side of the car, they would cancel each other out. This entire paragraph fleshes out a moot point because no wings are meant to be tailfins.

Again, wings add weight. And, yes, they do create drag. This drag contributes to downforce on the rear of the car. This is beneficial to RWD cars. The benefits of this downforce does not overcome the drawbacks of the added drag unless the car is powerful enough to reach a speed where the downforce is actually neseccary. That's why you see wings on race cars.

Wings are on Civics because people like them. They are cosmetic.

well, I can see it is time for me to make another post here. I can admit that I was fed false information, and that My wing is little more than for looks. As for weight, its only about 3 pounds, very light. Drag, maybe, but so little at normal speeds that you wouldn't notice the difference. This has gone far enough and all the research I have done has been inconclusive. I liked whoever that was's phisics description, so I will leave it at that.

forgive me for posting on the subject;) , but the wing may actually improve handling on darkwing's car, if he ever goes fast enough to need it. The extra downforce it creates could help keep the rear end from losing traction in a high G turn. The only thing is, will he ever need it? Probably not. In case anyone was wondering why this topic was posted, it is b/c I wanted to mention what a good deal I got on the car, not about the aftermarket spoiler I added. Look in KBB or whatever, it has the car listed at 8,500 USD but I got mine for 6,100, that's what I was posting about. (this forum is for 'good dealer experiences'):p

its not a bad lookin car it seems like you got a good price on the car civics just arent my thing i like cars you dont see alot of thats why i picked my car but its alot better then some civics
