idleing problem

my yota's oil has starterd to flash on i have some time before i need a change but i looks like it idles at about 300 which is lower then it use to. also the oil light only flashes on when it gets that low, sometimes resulting in it dying, if i give it just a little gas to bring the needle just under 1000 the light goes off, it does this once im in gear and starts to slow down or when im a at a complete stop. also i dont know if its realted but now its winter hear in wisconsin so it has been colder

Duh, have you checked the oil level ???

300 RPM is too low. The oil pump can't make enough pressure, triggering the light. ALso, cold temp with thicker summer oil will add to the pressure problem.
Adjust/fix the idle and change to thinner winter oil.

I had that problem too for awhile. I checked the oil and it was fine. I'm not sure if the 22r is fuel injected but all I had to do on my 33re was put some fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank and eventually it went away. However, that's probably only a temporary fix as the problem is reoccuring sometimes. I'd get it to a shop and have them clean the injectors, assuming that it is fuel injected.

the idle is definately too low, I can't remember what the idle was supposed to be, but I think it was 3000 (I know it seems high) you should check the viscosity of the oil, make sure it isn't too thick for the weather.

Also, the engine may be running to lean, (a common problem) you might try some seafoam or other cleaner to clean yor carb. and fuel line.

Set your idle to 750-800 RPM.

turns out i had a bad fuel pump causing the low ideling and pressure, also my gasket was leaking causing that anoying gas smell i was getting

sorry about my last post her, I was thinking about other things at the time. Corbin is right, the idle should be 700 for a manual, 750 for an automatic, 3000 will probably blow you r engine
