Noise during Left turns on acceleration

Hi everyone,
I have a 1993 Plymouth Laser RS and i am having an issue when i make
left turns and accelerate there is a rubbing/grinding sound. it sounds almost like the tire is rubbing something or maybe the cv axle.

one wierd thing is if i have someone or something in the passenger side of the car i dont seem to hear the sound anymore. i also have a popping noise when braking sometimes and sometimes when takin off. im thinkin maybe a combination of struts/balljoints goin out.

also outta curiosity why is the trans on the passenger side of this car???

Sounds like CV joint going out IMO.

yeah, either a CV axle or a wheel bearing. Try going on an open road and swerving left to right at about 25 or so and see if the noise goes away when you turn either to the right or the left. If this is that case, then its most likely the wheel bearing. If it doesn't go away going either direction, then its possibly the CV axle.

as far as the trans, b/c thats where Mitsubishi wanted it lol. why do you ask?

I agree, if you only hear the popping noise when you accelerate or turn it is the CV. Take your wheel off and check the bearing.

the popping noise occurs when braking or taking off no matter what direction, and will still happen when braking with the clutch in or the trans in neutral.

the rubbing sound only happens when making left turns while accelerating with no one in ithe car with
me, also the noise seems to come from the drivers side. if i have weight in the passenger side i dont here the noise.

as for the trans bein on the passenger side i just thought it was weird b/c my neighbor has a 2.0l n/t
neon of around the same year model as my laser and his trans is on the opposite side
