Hi,
I just bought a 98 Expedition and it seems like a pretty solid machine.

My only question right now is when I start out from a stop I hear a clunk type noise from the rear of the vehicle. Can't narrow it down and haven't been able to get under it to peek yet.

Any ideas of what to look for when I go under this week ?????

Once I am up to speed maybe 10mph or higher I don't hear it even a little bit.. Seems to be completely gone. If I start out and go slow and continue slow I can still hear it....

Please help as I don't know much about these newer vehicles..

Thanks again for your time !!!!!

Sounds like you may have a bad Universal Joint (U-Joint). U-joint noises are usually easier to hear at slower speeds. I have a 98 myself but have not had to do any maintenance to the drive train yet. Removing the drive shaft is easy, however if you do need to replace the U-joint(s), you will need a vice or press. All in all, not a difficult job.
Good luck!
