Hello I have a quick question, and cannot get the search to work on here today so sorry if this is repeated. I have a 02 Grand Am SE1 3.4L And the check engine light is on I took it to autozone and the scanner said something I think it was Coolant temperature regulator. Stupid me didn't write it down. But I asked the guy at autozone what that was if it was the same as the coolant sensor and he has no idea. So any help would be great the light went out about 40 miles later but I still would like to fix this problem before it happens again.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

Code no and the scanner reading on the pcm tempture sensor would help.
Have you checked the water level?
If the light come back on get a engine capable scanner on it and read out codes and check the PCM tempture sensor reading.

First of all you should have written it down! Do you have a temp guage in the car ? Does it read a temp? Low coolant depending where the sensor is located will set it off. Mine on the 2000 GT was located on the intake manifold and was leaking from that spot due to a crack ever so slowly. New manifold and a new sensor and all is done. If you still get the service light on again have it scanned 1 more time. Just had my stepdaughters scanned at the zone--a 98- for a rough idle that told me that there is a problem with #6 cylinder Misfire. But we wrote everything down that it said could be. Gotta love the ZONE.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

some of the Zone guy(gals) dont know shit about automobils. I think these days they do try and fill positions with knoledgable associates, but thats not always the case.
3.4L's intakes arent the best, thats for sure.
Fyi crys36 , the misfire was prob dirty injector on #6.

Thanks for the info--was gonna check all of #6 anywho-especially the injector--she just put in a fuel cleaner 2 weeks ago for the car and then came the light--I only use Techron but who knows what she put in. Yes the guy at AutoZone was about 18 1/2 but all I wanted was the code read. For free its for me. Gotta start a 401K for these GA's between parts and my labor. We just got AAA 3 months ago and took the gold membership or something which gives you plenty of tows. Used it 4 times in the last 6 weeks. Thats a bargain for about 100$ a year. This is a great board even if your bored.

I used to work for Advance Auto parts, and they don't think experience is worth paying for. Auto Zone is no different, and they think their computer can do what a guy with experience can, WRONG!!! And just so you know, an ASE Parts certification doesn't mean squat either. The test is so easy, any monkey could pass it. When I took the test, I finished it (75 questions) in less than 15 minutes and only missed 2 (and that was because there were some questions worded badly that could have two answers depending on how you interpreted them). I would bet you are talking about the coolant temperature sensor for the computer, as it is the only "coolant temperature" sensor that would trip a check engine light.
