my daughter has a 1998 camry. I over hauled the engine for her and sent it to a a garage to get it checked out. he said to me that there is a nosies in the balancer assembly in side the oil pan and that the bearing are out of specks, there are 6 of them.
1.the bolts that are 9 of them (not the outside ones) what are the torque specks and what are the clearance between the bearings and the balancer shafts.
2.How stiff is it to be, the gear turns with your finger or with a vise grip or where do I get a new one without going to a dealer.
I did find bearings for it and I got standard bearing for it and it is in it and it is stiff and i don't think it is suppose to be that way and by the way the teeth on the gear is a 22 tooth and the bearing clearance is .002 thousand but it is stiff.

if it were mine i would take the balance shaft off and leave it off, weve ran test with these engines and you cant tell difference.

I got a question for you, and I was thinking of that too, but what do you do with the oil sump that part of it is attached to the balancer assembly?

Did you match bearings to the number stamped on the connector rod cap? There are 3 different "standard bearing" sizes.

It's difficult to answer your questions without knowing what you did and how you did it.
On a balancer assembly there are NO rods or end caps, all it does is keep the engine from vibrating. the bearings are standard and they don't tell you what size they are, they are 2 shafts with 2 gears on them and you time these gears to match up the dots at the end of the shafts to the case.

the oil strainer has two bolts that are attached to the oil pump, that enough to hold it without being bolted to balance shaft, i worked in powertrain four cynlinder at the toyota plant, and have build these engines for 10 yrs. i think the only reason they put the balance shaft on there was because, that was a customer complaint with vibrations on the 92-96 engines

I thank you for the information and I believe the last hole for the better word for it, for the balancer assembly for the oil will go into the oil pan so that it will complete cycle and not go into the assembly.

If you remove the balancer assembly, be sure and plug the oil supply hole. If you don't, your oil pressure will be too low. The tight bearing clearances in the balancer provide resistance to oil flow and provide back pressure so the entire engine has sufficient oil pressure.

TLCBAE, WHERE DID YOU FIND THE BEARINGS FOR THE BALANCE SHAFT? I'M LOOKING FOR SOME, I THINK YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE IT WITH YOUR HAND IF ALL IS WELL
