tire chains

I have an '05 Chev Silverado and read in the owners manual that Chevy doesn't recommend putting chains on the front tires. I've heard several reasons for this recommendation: not enough clearance between the tires and the front wheel wells and possible damage to the anit-lock brake sensors if the chains come off. I don't feel comfortable on our icy hills with chains on the rear wheels. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Consider yourself lucky.
My businesss partner has an '04 2wd Yukon. The owner's manual does not recommend REAR chains! Dealers in snow country and the GM info line could not tell us why or make a correction.
Seemed to me like a great selling point for Ford and Dodge SUV dealers!

I would suggest studding,,most tire manufacturers make it possible in their tire design,,fairly inexpensive too.

I don't know about other states but here in Michigan both studded snow tires and chains are illegal on public roads.
