My AC Compressor locks-up. It's happened to me twice. About a week ago and again today. The first time it happened I went about a mile before the belt started squeeling. The second time was this morning I had driven about 20 miles before it started squeeling. As soon as it started I turned off the compressor and it stopped. I also noticed a strain on the motor.

Sounds like the bearings are gone and you're going to need a new compressor. My Eldo did the same thing for the same reason. Not really a DIY job unless you have AC tools and equipment.

I was wondering if the pressure gets to high could it temporarily stop the compressor?

No. Your compressor is shot. It won't freeze up from refrigerant pressure alone.
