Bose Headunit?

My dad's truck is a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT with Duramax+Bose Upgrade and the sound quality sucks compared to a 2005 version of the vehicle. My question is if I buy a headunit from another manufacturer, such as Pioneer, will the sound quality improve, or should I buy a new Bose Headunit from GM direct?

Pioneer has a head unit that is 60x4, instead of the 45x4 watts, it cranks, I have it in my 99 sierra, I think it is the p80 or p480, trust me its nice. My brother has the bose unit in his Avalanche and it does not compare to this pioneer. :grinno:

I had to deal with a faulty head unit in my 2003. I was told that since it was Bose, getting a new aftermarket unit would be extremely expensive. A new unit from the dealer runs around $800. What I ended up doing was getting a used head unit and then having the dealer reprogram it to work in my truck (something you will need to do if you get a GM stereo due to the anti theft system).
