Can anyone tell me where I can find drawings & other info on the Insta-Trac transfer case? 2wd is fine, 4wd lo is fine but 4 hi does nothing. It had put itself in 4 hi a couple of times & I didn't think too much of it until driving down the highway at about 65 one day I heard (and felt) a loud bang like something broke. 4 hi hasn't worked since. I'd like to at least get a look at what I'm getting into on paper first before I tear this thing apart. Thanks in advance.

Is it still under warrenty by any chance?

I'm pretty sure that's a chain drive T-case.
And it sounds like the chain broke too me.
So you probably just take it apart and replace the chain and gear set.

You might even be able to do this with out taking the t-case off

Don't just replace the chain or it won't last long and it'll be noisy. And do an oil change.

Sorry no pic's but it shouldn't be that hard to fix

Thanks to both of you. No, it's got 45k on it already. I'll check into alldata. I've been thinking about buying the factory service manual. The price ought to be going down a little by now. I don't know about the Chevy manuals but I had the use of a factory Ford Taurus manual once to do a head & it was just about idiot-proof.
If it's in drive & you hit 4wd hi, nothing happens. If it's in neutral, the hi & lo lights flash but nothing happens & it goes back to 2wd so I'm really not sure if it's mechanical or electrical. After that bang I figured it was done.
Thanks again.
