Fine tuning problems....

Ok, so I have just completely rebuilt my KA24DE, every single part but the block is new, and I am now having some tuning problems, maybe you guys may have some knowledge.
So I have the Jim Wolf cams in there, and I can't seem to get the engine to idle at all, it just wants to die at anything below 1500 rpms. I hooked up the scanner to it and it is telling me that at idle I am running way lean and then all of a sudden it'll switch to running rich and die on me. I was wondering if you guys know how to tune the idle and timing advance to run these cams or if I just need to get a JWT ecu tuned for the cams. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I think the Jim Wolf ECU oughta take care of that since it should make the engine run richer compared to how it is now. I'll let one of the more experienced guys give ya a definite answer though.

Any ECu tune will fix that, what kind of fuel management are you running now?

Ehh...stock right now, I kinda ran out of money on this one...I have spent way, way too much on machine work and parts. But if I can't get it to work I'll be running my credit to get a new ecu, I was just hoping to find a way to get it to work for the time being.

Which MAFS are you using?

Stock 240 mafs. I'm going to get a Cobra mafs if I do a Jim Wolf ecu.

did you take everything apart? im guessing so since you rebuilt the motor...did you check the voltage on your tps sensor...if its way off it will cause a lean or rich situation...it will ive though a variance in there and make it waver like your saying...might want to check that.

never skimp on fuel management. Its just not wise. So what is your setup?

What is vacuum at?
Are you sure you timed the cams correctly?
JWT ECUs running at up to 18:1 AFR at idle is normal. My Enthalpy tune will do that sometimes..
Buying a JWT ECU won't do anything for you scenes how this is a closed loop problem. JWT is stock closed loop map for the most part.

Oh shit yea. Driftking777 may be right. I had an odd problem for a week or so that turned out to be my TPS being .05v off.lol Adjusted it back to .5 and voila! And what it did was it loaded up really bad... So maybe it is loose or something causing you to go from lean to rich.... Check it.

Yeah, I took everything apart. I pulled the entire engine out and sent a bare block and a new head to the machine shop. They put the jim wolf cams in with the ferrea valves and springs and put in slightly bigger pistons and crower rods.
With all the parts and machining I kinda ran out of money for ecu and fuel...but jim wolf didn't say I would have any trouble running the cams and the other stuff wasn't that much different from stock that it should effect the thing this badly. I am trying to find the idle. timming advance and tps voltage needed to run this. Right now it is hit and miss...but like I said I will get a ecu tuned to deal with the problem if I have to.

I'll try the tps voltage...it was running wied when I hooked up the comp to it, so maybe I'll get it right. Argh, I just want to drive my car. I pulls like hell right now, it just will not stay on at idle.

possibly a vaccum leak also... check all you hoses for dry rotting ect...that would cause and idle problem.

Thanks guys. I'll see what I can do. Hopefully it'll be driveable soon.
