Sigh. Had to happen sooner or later...Don't think I'll ever like it, just doesn't seem right. Rednecks + drifting = fuck.......

What lead's you to beleive that it's redneck? I hope it's not due to the fact that it's a vintage car, or the fact that it's a Camaro. Now granet there is a certain cliche` that goes with camaros. I own a 68 camaro, and I am a surfer/city boy. The specs are on the video that I gave you guys the link to. I guess you can bitch about this if you want, after all the ingnorant muscle car guys bitch about imports drag racing. I'm more open minded than most when it comes to imports, euro, domestic and all that b.s rivalry, so I'm for new stuff, as long as its quality, not that gayed up rice* crap.
*Does not exclude euros or domestics.

Just saying though, it does seem weird for an actual old school muscle car to be doing anything besides drag racing, but drifting? Sponsored by a japanese company? Geez whatever floats your boat, but I highly doubt thats a asian person piloting it. I'll give it more respect if it actually ever wins anything.
*edit, after looking at the article is seems a white guy is driving and the people built it call themselves Blacktop Rodeo. Congrats on fitting the stereotype. Don't worry folks, I'll read this rest of it to actually pull out something positive.
**edit. K after further reading it, props for actually trying. But 700hp? Come on now, wtf. Its drifting, not the fucking Bonneville Flats. Whatever, not my car, not my money. Good luck to them even though Rhys and other Formula D veterans won't even let them smell the top 3. Ey, D1 needs to come back to America some more....

LOL, that's all I needed from you, just backing that's all. I don't really know much about drift, and I could care how far they get in the competion. Just thought it was cool.
700 hp out of a 468... Bout as hard as getting 320 out of a SR20. The 468 that they have is most likely a crate motor. GM never built a 468, and I doubt they bored out a 454.
Nice F-body hoosier. What year is that? I don't have any pictures of my camaro, its tucked away in storage. Here is a picture of My 72', Looks better with my surfboard on it. :iceslolan :icon16: . And no I'm not going to paint it. In a few months its gonna get locked up with my 68' until I'm done with school so I can built it right.

sounds like one mean mofo.
and the vid says they only have 550 to 575 down to the ground. And there are high hp vehicles in drifting. I think nomuken(if i remember correctly) had an 800+ hp skyline he drifted in d1. The year the ae86 took the d1 champion for the year.

That has to be one hell of a suspesion on there too. That camaro, in stock form has the same susp. and chassis as my car. It's a very tall set up, really meant for keep the rear wheels firmly planted, and the car going straight. I give them props.
slideways...

i think there are a few ackward cars in FD...budda drifts camino being one of them...thats redneck'ed (if you've seen the car you know what im talking about) i also find the Camaro FD car pretty hot...but i also think that FD is also becoming more about powersliding than skill (not saying they dont have it, just saying they dont use it as much as D1 drivers)

Id like to see the american cars try and do it on the touge...they do look like they powerslide more than drift...
I dont really care much for formula d at all...except benson and nadine are pretty cool I met them at events...
I guess I am just a jdm whore
I'd like to see the fd drivers compete on the really tight technical tracks (no not the tomei lsd =) ) of japan and see how they do...

Hoosier is that a stock t-top on your car? Its' pretty good looking 3rd Gen camaro man, dig the lip spoiler. I like the 68's the best but the 2's and 3's are pretty hot also. My camaro is ugly as sin, it's in rough shape, needs a new roof and body panels.

Huh? What are you talking about bro? Explain cause you got me lost.
EDIT* Okay I had to re-read that a few times; You mean to say that the 70-72 is the second gen and the 67-69 is the first? I just got my 68 a year ago, and it has been in storage since the day I found it so I haven't had a chance to study up on it. Does GM base the gen's on the body? I.E X, A, B, F etc?

no all camaro's and firebirds are on the F-body chassis code, other things like chevelles, impalas, novas are all on the diffrent code chassis.

I thought the 67-69's where X, and the 70 ^ where F? I guess I was wrong. What threw me off what the the 68-74 Nova and 67-69 camaro shared the same sub-frame and suspension.

In case you guys didn't know, the driver is Ryan Hampton from Drift Alliance. He's a Formula D and D1 veteran, and before drifting, he did IRL. He drove an RX-8 and even got Yoshinori Koguchi's old 180SX after that. The Camaro is his new car.
I've seen videos of the car before, and it looks and sounds great. If he can drift something like that and be competitive, I say more power to him.

You mean he was in d1gp in the us, or he actually did japan too? D1 in japan is much different than irwindale, they dont have the really long banks for higher hp cars to get a good lead with etc...
Didnt he mess up koguchis 180sx or something? I don't remember but i think somethign happened to it...

Hampton is a US D1 guy. I think he's also been to the Drift Association(a lot of Club 4AG people) drift days too, because he's in their video.
I think Hampton may have just stopped using the 180SX. He didn't seem to have it for long. Only saw a couple pictures. I never saw him in the RX-8. He blew that car up just before Formula D Houston, and was stuck with using a Miata set up for autocross. He didn't even get to qualify.

I don't know much about the RX-8. I never even saw a picture of it.
The 180SX from Koguchi didn't look like it had been changed much. At least in the picture I saw, the only real change was the blue/green Falken paint job. The car still had the same body kit and drop vent hood Koguchi used and everything.
