Changing a CV joint

What is the difficulty level of myself a not know much about vehicles kind of guy replacing a cv joint on the pass. front side of my 96 explorer? I am getting the part for $50, just want to save as much as possible...Asuming I have none of the right tools?!? What would I need to do this?

I've got 40 years of shadetree mechanic skills, and I wouldn't do it. You should buy a Haynes manual and read the procedure, then make up your own mind. Ebay has used ones.

Good enough for me...Let the mechanic do it. He said it would only take 1.3 hours. Probably a whole day for me...Or more!
