Can anyone tell me what type of transmission is in a 1997 chevy blazer
4x4 w/ 4.3L engine?
Also, I have a little mechanical skills and would like to replace it myself. Being a newer vehicle post 1990 I am not sure if they have changed that drastically.
Any help and guidance will be appreciated.
Thanks

These vehicles mostly always used the GM 4L60E transmission.

Due to the clearance (or lack thereof) between the firewall and the engine, the left-side of the body must be raised to remove the upper engine to transmission bolts. If you are intent on performing the work yourself, obtain a Chilton or Haynes manual - the entire proceedure is outlined.
Also, although I have not used them yet, this site http://www.4l60-e.com/ appears to have some good pricing on quality rebuilt 4L60E transmissions.

What kind of problems are you having? Most of the time the transmission doesn't need to be replaced, especially on a 97 model, there are two common conditons that can be fixed without replacing the tranny.

Yea, that is what I am thinking too.
If he is getting transmission codes, he might have the ignition switch causing that.
mushhhy, what are the symptoms??!!
Don't change anything yet!
