Down Pipe, Fuel Pump and Injector Question.

Im getting ready to buy a 1g turbo dsm in a few days (my beater car just died, 260k on it). I'm trying to get my mod list together and I'm having a lot of fun researching all the different mods and what ones i want to do and making home made parts and stuff.
I think i know what i want as far as mods go.
I'm thinking:
home made intake (i actually already made it. Only $20. hope it fits when i buy the car),
Home made MBC
Boost gauge
Ill port the o2 housing myself
IC piping
A 2.5" down pipe
and either a 190 or 255 lph fuel pump with an AFPR
and i was thinking i could stay with the stock injectors but i don't know.
And I plan on keeping the 14b and not ever going any bigger because this will be a daily driver and I'm only going for cheap mods on this car so far.
Ive read that you don't need a AFPR with the 190 lph on a setup similar to this one, but some people say you do in which case you might as well get a 255lph just in case. My question on that is if a 190 lph would work for me or if i should go with a 255lph and a FPR. I'm not sure
My down pipe question is this, I've read about o2 sensor housing dump tubes but after some thinking, i thought that it would be easier to just get a Buschur 2.5" dp or something and drill a 1"~ hole in it so that the exhaust will go out the stock exhaust and the hole in the dp eliminating the need for a full turbo back system. This would be until i buy the rest of the exhaust system at which time i would weld the hole up.
I know this would work and everything but i was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on it.
Your thoughts on these questions or the mods I'm planning on would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Eric
BTW, just in case i thought id add that i did use the search thing before i posted this.

do you plan on modding much at all in the future? if so just go with the 255 pump and afpr. it'll save you time and money later on if you plan on modding.
as for the exhaust, just go with a full 3" mandrel bent custom exhaust. i wouldn't screw with all the differnt downpipes and this and that..get it all at once, that's the easiest.

We can tell ;)
If you're not planning on modding past the 14b, and this is a daily driver, I don't see why to go beyond the 190lph, rewired. You're obvious of the DSM'er "save money" mentality, and not having to purchase the AFPR seems like it would be attractive for you.
Drilling a hole in your dp will sound like hell, just as bad as an o2 dump. Buying the full exhaust is a worthy purchase. Burschur makes nice stuff, but for less money you can get a custom full exhaust that will work fine.
Good luck, let us know how it goes :).

Well, i only plan to go as far as the 14b will let me, i don't plan on upgrading to a bigger turbo, ill probably just port the 14b and be done with it. Isnt the 16g the next step up in turbos? the b16g only flows like 100cmf more for $500, too expensive for me, maybe if i need to rebuild the 14b ever ill get the compressor wheel, cover and back plate and turn it into a 16g.
The fastest i want to go is about mid 12s (i know that would be pretty hard with only a 14b), i would be happy with low 13s with this setup though since its going to only be a DD.
I don't really want to put much money into this car though, that's one reason why its so appealing to me. Ive put over $7,000 into my mustang (not including a DIY nitrous system i just made) and it does mid-high 10s with the 150 shot (521rwhp) and mid-high 11s without the n20 (365whp) so i don't need to go all out with the dsm since its not my track car.
I was also wondering if i should upgrade the injectors to 550's. I've read that with a 190lph and stock injectors, you can max out 14b and not have any problems, i don't know for sure though. how far could i go on the stock injectors? I'm going to probably get the 255lph and afpr but if the 190 doesn't need an afpr i might go with that. the 190lhp is suppose to be good for up to 400hp right?
also, although a full turbo-back system would be easier and probably cheaper in the long run, i was planning to drill a hole in the 2.5" dp because if i port the o2 housing and cut the hole in the dp, itl only cost me like $175 for the same power increase as a turbo-back :grinyes: .
Ans as far as gauges go, i was thinking just a boost gauge, EGT, and a data logger. any other recommendations you guys have?
Thanks

Click here (http://www.94tsiawd.com/Goodwill1.html) It will go as far as you want (mid 12s) and then some. Buy some u-bends, pipe, and muffler and make your own exhaust. Save lots that way. For the fuel pump buy the biggest and you only have to buy once, but buy the little one and you might run out of fuel later on. You don't have to put much money in these cars to make them fast.
Thanks

Sorry Gsx_hooptie i didn't see your post, but yeah everyone seems to say go for the full exhaust and i think i better take your advice since I've researched it a bit more, and now that i think about the noise. Thanks loeman for the website i think ill read that right now.
But like i said, ill go with the 255lph if unless i don't have to use the afpr with the 190lph, even if i did need the afpr the if the 190lph really does support 400hp i could just use that anyways. But i know what you mean the 255 would be reassurance for just in case.
Also, would i need a AFC also with this setup or just a pocketlogger? i was thinking i would be ok with just a pocketlogger.
I forgot to mention that ill also get a ACT 2600 clutch and ill do all the free mods of course.

1) You'll need a regulator with the 255. If you're willing to spend that much, you're better off.
2) Exhaust is a good idea. Good choice.
3) A boost gauge is a must, an egt may not help as much as you'd like.
4) You can get a 14b into 12's, it's been done.
5) Kevin has a fuel worksheet on his site you should check out.

lol, i know what you mean about the bench racing, its just such an easyt question to ask heh :grinno:.
Also, when i get the afc, ill get the apexi s-afc II, but i was thinking i would buy this as the last mod since its probably going to be the most expensive but a friend said it would be better to buy it as one of the first mods. he said that with no mods and an afc you can get a little more performance out of a stock car just because you control the fuel yourself.
I was wondering if it would make more sence to buy it now or after i have my major mods like the exhaust and fuel pump.
Oh and yes i did read the Goodwill story, heh almost makes FWD look more appealing. i cant believe they did that on the 14b, i cant imagine what they'll run on that 'big turbo' there planning on.
It gives me confidence that ill get into the 12's with the 14b :grinyes: .

Cool, ill look definetly take a look on ebay.
The more i think of it, it would be pretty cool to get one of those to mess around with on a mainly stock car just to see if i could get any more power.
But like i sayd, i plan on being done with modding this car in about 1 month so i guess it doesnt really matter what order i get my stuff in.
Ive been reading a lot about home-made turboback exhausts, and the more i read the easier it looks. I read somewhere where a guy got free 3" mandrel bends and 3" pipe from a muffler shop. He welded it himself and ended up with an almoast completely free turboback. That sounds pretty badass.

Also, is there a big difference between a S-AFC II and the regular S-AFC. or do they both do prety much the same thing?

Take what you can get, I don't know the differences between old and new but people have run fast with the old style for a long time. I think the new ones have more monitoring functions.

You can do the same on intercooler pipes. Make friends with someone at the machine shop, and there is no limit to the cheap things you can get done. $35 to hone my block, tank it, polish the crank, and hang new pistons. We are in the process of O-ringing the block so I can use the SCE copper gasket. I also picked up a 4 gal fuel cell for $15 just by hanging out at the track. Remember, racers always buy twice so you can get really good deals on used parts. Do your research on what parts are interchangeable from other cars too (rx7 550 fuel injectors are cheap) I could go on for hours about this crap, but it is late so I'll shut up now.

WAY TO HIJACK THE THREAD!! :iceslolan haha it's all good.
880's should get you more than you need with that turbo, you won't be running them anywhere near maxed out, but it's always nice to have a little re-assurance when running anything on a dsm, you never know what will happen.

Nitrous, I agree with getting the tuning stuff early in the game. Unlike the other mods, tuning isn't plug and play, it takes time to learn. For that reason, and the benefit of getting a bit more out of your car now, I'd make the safc an early mod. Good luck.

That's true, maybe someday ill upgrade to a larger turbo now that i think about it. like a 20g or something huge. then ill buy the right fmic, injectors, fuel pump and stuff. But that wouldn't be for a long long time. No need for 2 10 sec cars yet haha.
But yeah this will mainly just be a daily driver that i can have fun with so im not planning on buying the expensive turbos and stuff.
I did come up with one more question though. I found a 92 eclipse GS-t 5-speed that has some body damage (i don't care though) that's selling for 1500 obo. It runs good and has 155k miles or something like that. 1g GSX go for anywhere from $3500-$4500 asking price around here.
I was thinking, since the guys with project goodwill got their FWD to run 10's on the stock turbo of all things, do you think it would be a wise decision to just buy this car, or wait for a GSX to turn up since i only have 12's in mind.
I also kinda think its cool that being the underdog with FWD, they can school most things on the track and probably almost anything on the road (if it was street legal).
The feeling of out launching someone just to have them catch up to you and pass by the 1/3~ mile, and just plain own roll races, isnt great either.
i have a friend with a m6 trans am that runs high 11's. He owns my 11.43 sec 5.slow fox from a roll and long races from a dig. I would win if i used n20 though (high/mid 10's w/ n20) but i dont open the bottle unless im at the track. Plus i spent total of about what his car costed when he bought it used not including the mods hes done so im still happy.
Plus i don't really know if i would like the idea of the AWD traction tearing at the transmission and clutch every launch. FWD has wheel hop though.
Sorry, im just trying to sike(sp) my self up about FWD lol.
Oh, and the tuning stuff definitely seems like a good first mod to me too. but i was wondering, would i need a afpr if i had an afc?

Wheel hop is fixable, as are the traction issues. Otherwise the pro fwd cars would be pointless. I have no problem being the underdog.
